           MAURICE BÉJART

                           MASTER   STORYTELLER. . .

On the 12th and 13th of March this year  Maurice Béjart’s ingenious talent evolved further into the realm  of storytelling. In performances at the Swiss Théâtre Barnabe à Servion, dance-lovers were treated to true spectacle: two cross–genre stories embracing the magical triad of theatre-musical-dance were performed to  written texts by Amos Kenan  (French adaption by Christiane Rochefort)and Anton Chekov.

For all the written reviews which can espouse Béjart’s choreographic genius and his unnerving eye for exquisite dance talent, here rather, the images tell all…

Voila l’Homme written by Amos Kenan was first created as a dance piece by Béjart and Kenan in Paris when he created Cabaret des quartre saisons in 1956.

Named after the Indian god of dance, Maurice Béjart launched the Rudra BéjartStudio-School in Lausanne in 1992. An inter-disciplinary approach focuses on the student’s sense of self development. Fundamentally rooted in the craft of dance, the students follow a two year course involving the other performance disciplines of theatre, music, voice, rhythm and the martial art of kendo

"Rudra also represents an intellectual and moral way of life.
A form of existence in relation to the modern world where the dancer takes on a social role in the universe. In an age of permissiveness and relaxation it is important to have human beings who, without being agressive, have a real desire to confront life's struggle."
