Sarah Dolby

  Sarah Dolby was born in Wanaka, New Zealand, in 1971.

Sarah spent most of her 20s traveling throughout Europe, Asia and Morocco. After working as an artist part-time in London for a couple of years she returned to  New Zealand in 1997 and completed a Degree in Fine Arts at the Otago Polytechnic's School of Art.

Soon after graduating she joined Animation Research Ltd  where she works as an artist  - applying her skills to computer graphics.

Her first passion has always been for painting and when not at work she retreats to her home in Brighton on Otago’s rugged southern coast where she lives with her partner Richard and their dog Baxter, spending many hours before her easel.

Artist Statement

I like to explore the sometimes consuming emotions that simmer under our skin and as a result these paintings have become 'inner self portraits' ...representations of these often intense moments that we have to experience.

The physical distortion of the women, for me, helps separate the real from the represented, exploring line ... freeing our minds to consider more than what we expect to see.
